Saturday, May 19, 1888

Frank Hintz, a farmer living east of the Germania brewery, on the Woodward farm, has disappeared and has not been seen for two weeks. As he had only ten dollars in his pocket at the time, it is supposed that he fell into the creek that had been swollen by the recent rains, and drowned. He is a married man with a family.

Two men have started in a skiff in search of the body of Frank Hintz, who it is believed had been drowned in the Willow Creek and mention, of whose disappearance is made in another column.

The Body of Frank Hintz Found in Willow Creek—Foul Play Suspected.

LeMars, May 19.—Special to The Journal:
The body of the missing man, Frank Hintz, mentioned by your correspondent in a former letter, was found yesterday in Willow Creek, near the brewery. It is just two weeks today since he was last seen, having been in LeMars and left on foot for home about 5:40 o’clock in the evening. The body was condsiderably bruised and there prevails a feeling that he was foully dealt with.

It is also claimed that he was in the habit of drinking, and was under the influence of liquor when starting home. If such was the case, it is another of the many heinous crimes that the crack of doom will divulge; and if not before, these “bootleggers” will have meted out to them just and sure punishment.
