ZEIG

A farmer named Zeig, living on one of the late John Herron’s farms, south-east of town, died on Thursday, night of smallpox and neglect, the ladder being the chief cause. Mr. Zeig had been sick for some weeks, and it is reported that the trustees of the township in which he lived, quarantined the house, and then abandoned the poor fellow. He died, of course, and his wife is now down with the same disease. Mr. Zeig was a hard-working farmer; he leaves a wife and three children. Vaccination is a good preventative of smallpox, but is not of any effect in cases of negligent brutality.
