Robert H. (Bob) Simmons, 82, of Quitman, Texas, and formerly of LeMars, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in Richardson, Texas. Robert Herman Simmons was born Sept. 25, 1923, in Nacora, Neb., the son of Francis S. and Rose (Gastel) Simmons.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he married Arlene Kaschmitter on Nov. 15, 1947. He was employed for a few years with Hoffman Electric in LeMars. Eventually, he owned and operated his own T.V. repair shop in LeMars. In 1954, Robert and Arlene moved to Madison, S.D., where he was employed for several years with East River Power Company. In 1974, they moved to Lincoln, Neb., where he was employed with Lincoln Electric until his retirement in 1985. When he retired, the couple moved to Quitman, Texas. His wife Arlene died on Feb. 13, 2006.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Matthews and her husband, Jay, of Richardson, Texas; a granddaughter, Anna Matthews of Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Magdalene Wlecke of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Rose Puetz and her husband, Dave, of LeMars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene Simmons on Feb. 13, 2006; two children in infancy, Nicholas and Anita.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Jay Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday for one hour before the funeral.
