Funeral Thursday for Centenarian.
Mrs. Frank (Josephine) Nuebel, 101, LeMars, Plymouth County native and lifelong resident died Monday evening (August 17, 1987) at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Nuebel, the last of the large William Meis family, leaves 233 direct descendants.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars with Rev. Dale George officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under direction of the Luedtke-Feuerstein funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Christian Mother’s rosary will be at 4 p.m. and parish rosaries at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The former Josephine Meis, she was born Sept. 5, 1885, in America Township, Plymouth County, to William and Angela Tauke Meis. She married Frank L. Nuebel Feb. 13, 1906 at LeMars, St. Joseph’s Church.
After their marriage, the couple worked with the Nuebel’s family-operated grocery store for several years. They then began farming near LeMars and farmed until 1939 when they retired to LeMars. Mr. Nuebel died Aug. 23, 1970.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Christian Mother’s Society and the Catholic Ladies Club.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Leona Sitzmann, Mrs. Rosella Sitzmann, Mrs. Vivian Sitzmann and Mrs. Edward (Agatha) Sitzmann, all of LeMars, and Mrs. Eugene (Dorothy) Crooks of Garden Grove, Calif.; two sons, Lawrence of Remsen, and Vincent of LeMars; 54 grandchildren, 150 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Leo, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Harpenau Bohlke and two grandchildren.
