Obituary.
Mrs. Bernice J. GenglerMrs. Bernice Gengler, 73, South Sioux City, died Monday (June 6, 1988) at a Sioux City hospital after an unexpected illness. She had lived at Matney’s Colonial Manor.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas Donahue officiating.
Burial will be Calvary Cemetery in LeMars.
Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday with the rosary recited by the parish at 7 p.m. at Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gengler, the former Bernice J. Mayrose, was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Remsen. She married George H. Gengler Oct. 11, 1937, at Remsen. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1943. He died June 21, 1975, at Sioux City.
Mrs. Gengler was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic and a former member of the Altar Society of the church.
Survivors are five sons: Leo of Northglenn, Colo., Kenneth of Alta Loma, Calif., and Jim, Bob and George, all of Sioux City. Five daughters: Mrs. Mary Jo Hofer and Mrs. Jerry (Helen) Sturges, both of Sioux City, Mrs. Carole Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. John (Jeanne) Stewart, of Sergeant Bluff, and Mrs. Chris (Anne) Hackett of Augusta, Ga. A sister, Mrs. Marjorie Schawbert of Mishawaka, Ind., and three brothers, Leo Mayrose of Burbank, Illinois, Harry Mayrose of Glendora, Calif., and John Mayrose of LeMars; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Jo.
