Died.
MERRIMAN—At the home of J. G. Koenig in this city, Thursday, August 22, Mrs. Caroline Merriman, aged 77 years.

The deceased suffered long with lumbago, being confined to her bed for many weary months and the end was not unexpected. Only her wonderful vitality preserved her life through her long and intense suffering until the weakness of her great age finally overcame her. Her patience and faith through all her illness had doubly endeared her to the loving friends who surrounded her bedside and who now mourn her loss.

Mrs. Merriman was born in Germany, moving with her parents in early childhood to America and remained for many years. They moved afterwards to Philadelphia where Mrs. Merriman’s marriage took place in 1840. Her husband, Jacob Merriman, is still living. In 1871 Mr. and Mrs. Merriman accompanied by their daughter, who was Mrs. Merriman’s niece, and her husband, J. G. Koenig, moved to Plymouth county and settled on the Floyd near Melbourne. For ten years they labored on the farm, moving to LeMars in 1881, where their home has since been.

The funeral services will be held on Sunday morning at 10:30 at the German M. E. church, the Evangelical church not being deemed large enough to contain those who will attend. The services will be conducted by Rev. Emil Mueller and Rev. Wm. Jonas.

Mrs. Merriman’s Funeral
From Monday’s daily.

The funeral of Mrs. Jacob Merriman was held yesterday morning at half-past ten at the German M.E. Church, and was so well attended that a great many could not gain entrance. Many members of the Stanton and Melbourne churches were in attendance as well as many friends throughout the county. The old settlers turned out in good force and marched to the church in a body and were given seats together.

The services were conducted by Rev. J.A. Kleinsorge and Rev. Emil Mueller, the former preaching in German and the latter in English, and they were assisted by Rev. M. Dulitz and Rev. Mr. Goetschel. Some good singing was rendered by the church choir and the service lasted about two hours.
