Charles L. Sawyer Was Son Of First Congregational Minister Here
Jacob Koenig, of this city, was notified Monday of the death of Charles Luther Sawyer in Los Angeles, Calif. The notification was sent by Miss Lola C. Tomlinson, a daughter of Mrs. C. C. Tomlinson, of the deceased. The ashes of the body, which was cremated in California, will be forwarded to Le Mars and buried in the Sawyer burying ground in the city cemetery.
Mr. Sawyer lived in Le Mars in boyhood days and is remembered by a few of the early settlers.
His father, Rev. Rufus M. Sawyer, was the first pastor of the Le Mars Congregational church of this city in the early seventies.
Charles L. Sawyer, was a brother-in law of Fred Tomlinson, who put Le Mars on the map for several years in pioneer days when he toured the country from coast to coast advertising and selling Tomlinson’s “Dead Shot” and “Quick Relief Oil.”
