Ben Remer Dies After Brief Illness: Rites Saturday
Ben F. Remer, 69, lifelong Le Mars resident, died early Thursday morning, May 26, at Sacred Heart hospital after a 10 day illness.
He was manager of the Union hotel the past several years, and was active in the business until his hospitalization eight days before his death.
Benjamin Franklin Remer was born Jan. 27, 1886, at Le Mars. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and Modern Woodmen of American and an active member of the Le Mars Fire department. He resided at 500 4th Ave. SE.
His marriage to Lena Bachman took place May 5, 1909, at Goodell, Iowa. His wife survives as do a daughter, Helen Remer of Council Bluffs; two sons, Donald of Los Angeles and Gerald of Marietta, Ga.; a grandson, Gerald; two brothers, Louis and Frank; and a sister, Mrs. Emma Hansen.
His parents, six brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Mauer’s funeral home. Rev. James Ransom officiated. Burial was in the city cemetery.
