Henry Schipper, 85, Is Dead; Last Rites Set Here Thursday
Henry E. Schipper, 85, died Monday at Sacred Heart hospital where he had entered as a patient the previous day. He had been in ill health the past two years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church. Rev. Frank Patterson will officiate; and burial will be in the city cemetery. The body was taken to Mauer's funeral home.
Born Sept. 4, 1869 at Pella, Mr. Schipper came to Le Mars as a child and lived here ever since. An operator for the Cooper Transfer Co. here for many years, he retired about 30 years ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and a retired member of the Le Mars Fire department.
Mr. Schipper loved to swim, and actively enjoyed the sport every summer at the Le Mars swimming pool until the last few years of his life.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Earline) Cowan, and son, Wayne Schipper, both of Le Mars; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, H. A. Schipper of Le Mars; and four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Fruenicht and Mrs. Mary Gregory both of Sioux City, Mrs. Lowell Burkett of Jefferson, Iowa, and Mrs. Elizabeth Skuse of Mankato, Minn.
