Judith 'Judy' Lanning, 75 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Accura Healthcare in Le Mars, Iowa.
Abiding by her wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no services. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Judith Ann Malcolm was born on September 2, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa to Willis Dean and Mary (Losie) Malcolm. She was raised in Westfield and their family later moved to Akron. Judy graduated from Akron High School in 1965.
She was united in marriage to John ‘Jack’ Wayne Lanning on May 1, 1965. They made their home in Akron.
Judy worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at Hillcrest Healthcare in Hawarden, in the emergency room at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, and at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa. Judy also volunteered for 23 years as an EMT in Akron.
Judy enjoyed reading and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. Her favorite time was spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include 3 children: Tammy (Mark) Fuller of Rapid City, SD, Mandy Taggart of Akron, IA, and Mitchal (Jenell) Lanning of Akron, IA; grandchildren: Perry James Houts, Allie (Heriberto) Macedo, Holly (Austin) Behrens, Emily (Chris) Sour, and John David Lanning (Jalyssa Frerichs); 7 great grandchildren; siblings: Laura Jean (Charlie) Hughes, Patricia Button, Roberta (Lester) Van Buskirk, and Shirley Sanders; four step siblings; sister-in-law, Patsy Dimmick of Akron; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Allen Dean Malcolm; brothers-in law: Richard Button, Dan Sanders, Ronald ‘Buck’ Lanning, Robert ‘Bobby’ Lanning, and Dellis Dimmick.
