January 13, 1924 - June 3, 2022
Ardis ‘Penny’ Hartmann, 98 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, Iowa. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Akron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Akron Care Center.Ardis E. ‘Penny’ Andersen was born on January 13, 1924 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Niels L. and Pedrea (Pedersen) Andersen. She was raised in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek High School. Penny worked for many years at J.C. Penney’s in Sioux City, Iowa. Penny was united in marriage to Gary Hartmann on November 30, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.
Penny was a long-time member at Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered in many capacities, including being a member of the church altar guild. Penny was also a charter member of the GFWC Friendship and Service Club in Akron. Penny enjoyed quilting, shopping, and going for car rides. She had a special love for animals, especially cats.
Penny is survived by several nieces and nephews: Carol Clemens, Eric Andersen, Dick Hartmann, Beth Gloss, Jeffery Hartmann, Jim Hartmann, and Judy Hunstad; special friends: Jane Zebus and Pati Dirks (second cousin) ; and other extended relatives.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; and brother, Irving Andersen.
