DEATH COMES TO DR. C. STOUTENBURG LAST WEDNESDAY

Rites For Esteemed Akron Woman Held Last Friday

In the passing of Dr. Clara M. Stoutenburg on Wednesday, May 12, 1948, Akron lost one of its bets known and most highly esteemed citizens, after a short illness, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 4 days. The last year of her life was spent in the home of her place, Mrs. Besse Lias.

Clara Mae Stoutenburg was born on June 8, 1863, in Ulster county, New York. Her girlhood and school days were spent in New York until the year 1891, when her family moved west and settled in LeMars, Iowa. Here Miss Stoutenburg worked in a dressmaking shop for several years. She later went to Chicago, where she and a partner operated a dress shop for thirty years. About the year 1914 she began a course in the study of chiropractic, from which she graduated. She opened an office here in Akron, where she practiced as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Waterbury, of Akron; four nieces and two nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Mrs. H. R. Carrette, and her only brother, H. R. Stoutenburg.

Miss Stoutenburg was very firm in her religious beliefs, being a staunch church worker all through her life. She was a member of the Episcopal church, but during her life
Of the Episcopal church, but during her life in Akron was a faithful attendant and supporter of the Methodist church. Her true Christian spirit was shown in her love and devotion to her family, whose welfare was always foremost in her mind. She will be sincerely missed by them and the many friends who will cherish her memory.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon, at 2:00k o’clock
At the house and at 2:30 in the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Orville N. Nelson. Mrs. Mary Lundberg sang “Going Home.” The pallbearers were Lowell L. Burrill, W. L. Mitchell, Clifford Kennedy, Melvin Smith, Max Pollock and J A. Jenson. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
