HOLD RITES FOR AKRON RESIDENT LAST THURSDAY
Mrs. H. Stoutenburg Dies At Home Of Her Daughter Here Nov. 6
Henrietta DuBois was born August 14, 1864, in Ulster county, New York, one of a family of nine children. In 1865 her parents moved to eastern Iowa. When she was six years old they came by covered wagon to Plymouth county, settling on a homestead near the present town of Craig.
Here she went to elementary school and later attended LeMars Normal school, where she secured a teacher’s certificate. She taught school in Preston township for nine years.
In 1890 she was united in marriage with Howard R. Stoutenburg. To this union four children were born. They made their first home in LeMars, Iowa, moving to a farm in Union county, S. D., in 1894. Here they remained until her husband was called in death in 1923. She then moved to Sioux Falls, S. D., with her two eldest daughters, where they resided for two years. For the past 25 years she and the daughters have made their home in Riverside, California. In July of this year she was brought here to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Besse Lias, to be cared for in her last years. She passed away here on Tuesday morning, November 6, 1951, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 23 days.
Mrs. Stoutenburg’s life was spent in quiet devotion to her friends, her family and to her God. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Riverside California, and was at one time a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Akron.
One daughter, Edith, preceded her in death in 1943.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Lee Stoutenburg, of Akron; two daughters, Eva Stoutenburg, of Riverside, California, and Mrs. Besse Lias, of Akron; two brothers, C. K. DuBois, of Jackson, Tennessee, and Ray DuBois, of Akron; one sister, Mrs. J. F. McCallum, of Jackson, Tennessee; three grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. H. Myron Braun. Music was by a male quartet comprised of Melvin Lias, Gail Hemmingson, Karl Silkebakken and Harry Nelson accompanied by Mrs. Harry Nelson. Mrs. Russell Bowers, of LeMars, sang a solo, with Mrs. Max Pollock as accompanist. The pallbearers were: Andrew Bredall, Alva Ericson, Rolle Baker, Henry Claassen, Ralph Smith and Grant Gussman. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
