Mrs. Wittkop, wife of John Wittkop, residing on section 29, in Marion township, died on Monday night at a hospital in Rochester, Minn., where she was taking treatment. Mrs. Wittkop was suffering from goiter and other complications. She had been in indifferent health for the past five years. The body was shipped here from Rochester on Wednesday and taken to the family home.
Mrs. Wittkop was 53 years of age last month. Her maiden name was Theresa Niggemann and she was born in Westphalia, Germany. She was married in 1888 to John Wittkop and in the same year, they came to Minnesota and shortly afterward to Remsen. In 1891 they bought a farm in Marion township which has been their home since and where they have greatly prospered adding to the original eighty-acre farm they bought.
Ten children were born to their union, nine of whom are living all in the home vicinity. They are Henry, John, Mrs. John Neissius, Anton, George, Charles, William, Elizabeth, and Theresa.
The funeral will be held this morning at 10 o'clock at St. Catherine's church In Oyens.
Mrs. Wittkop was a devoted wife and mother, active in church and social work, and was much esteemed in a large circle of friends and neighbors.
