Donald Joseph Treinen

Donald Joseph Treinen, 80 years old, of Remsen, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 22, 2022. His wish came true when his time on earth was complete doing what he loved on the family farm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7p.m. on Wednesday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church. Funeral will be live-streamed here.

Don was born on June 24, 1941, to Marion and Angeline (Conrad) Treinen, at rural Remsen. He was raised on the farm and graduated from Remsen St. Mary’s High School in 1959.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a Specialist E5 in the A Company, 2nd Brigade, 133rd Infantry Division.

On June 17, 1965 Don married the love of his life and best friend, Mary Cronin, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Together they had five children. Don and Mary worked and raised their family on the Treinen farm.

Don is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. He was a Remsen Ramblers 4-H club leader and was very active and influential in the Plymouth County Fair livestock exhibits.

Over the years, he developed many lifelong friendships through his seed business. His passions were family, farming and raising show cattle. He thoroughly enjoyed attending his granddaughters’ sporting and 4-H events, fishing and playing cards.

Don is survived by his loving wife Mary and their four children: David of Remsen, Mike (Jen Horstman) of Marcus, Janet (Mark) Brown of Orange City and Julie (Doug) Schmidt of Dakota Dunes, SD; five granddaughters: Brianna Plendl, Alyssa Brown, Brooklyn (fiancé Colin), Madison and Tori Treinen.

He was preceded in death by his son Donald in infancy, his parents, and sisters Pat Norris, Judy Arens and Dottie George.
