Lawrence Harrison killed in a scaffold fall
Lawrence Harrison, 49, Le Mars, was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart hospital at 3:20 Tuesday afternoon after falling 14 feet to a cement floor from a scaffolding.
Dr. Sherman Lindell, the county medical examiner, said Mr. Harrison died of a fractured neck.
HE WAS TAKEN to the hospital by Luken's ambulance after the fall from an inside scaffolding at the new 50-by-100- foot steel warehouse being erected by Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative south of Le Mars.
Carl Paulson, NIPCO assistant manager, said Charles Kramer, Le Mars contractor, was working with Mr. Harrison on the scaffolding. Mr. Kramer suffered a fractured ankle and multiple body bruises in the fall. Dr. Lindell said Mr. Kramer had not undergone surgery on the ankle as yet. Mr. Kramer was taken to Sacred Heart hospital in a NIPCO vehicle.
MR. PAULSON said there were no other witnesses to the accident and that it appeared an overhead door had somehow raised to knock the 14-foot scaffolding over, as the finishing touches were being done on the warehouse. The men were employed as sub-contractors by Steel Structures, Inc., Sioux City.
Mr. and Mrs. Harrison had lived in Sioux City and had moved to an apartment in Le Mars about a year ago. They are both former Le Mars residents.
FUNERAL SERVICES for Lawrence Harrison will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Luken funeral home. Burial will be in Le Mars Memorial cemetery. Rev. Robert Floy of St. John American. Lutheran Church will officiate. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Harrison was born on February 13, 1916, at Salix. His marriage to Joyce Steinfadt took place in Le Mars, March 26, 1946, in Le Mars. He was employed as a carpenter. His parents were the late Alexander and Freda Amsler Harrison.
Survivors are his wife; two brothers, Gene of Le Mars and Cyrus of Omaha; three sisters, Mrs. Louis (Mabel) Mook and Mrs. Hazel Stinton, both of Sioux City, and Mrs. Earl (Elsie) Lemke of Los Angeles.
He served in the armed forces during World War 2.
