Obituary of Mrs. Rose Shearer

This community was very much saddened by the passing of one of its most beloved women, Mrs. Rose Shearer.

Rose Maude Warren was the first child of Thomas and Emma Warren, who immigrated to America from England. Rose was born September 2, 1882, in Plymouth County, and most of her life was spent in and around Westfield. She was united in marriage with Fred Shearer, March 13, 1901. To this union three sons were born—Russell Fay and Thomas, both of Sioux City, and Walter LeRoy, of Westfield. After 1928, Mrs. Shearer lived in the home of her father, Thos. Warren, caring for the home, and was also a tireless worker and teacher in the church Sunday school and Christian Endeavor.

Mrs. Shearer contracted influenza last fall and that, coupled with an attendant disease, retarded her complete recovery, although she again took up her work in the home and church, and, almost to the last, was still hopeful that she might again carry on. All that loving care and medical skill could give was to no avail and she passed quietly on Friday, May 21, 1937.

Besides her three sons, she leaves to mourn her departure her father, Thos. Warren; a sister, Mrs. Fred Husted, and a brother, Will Husted. Outside her immediate family she is loved and remembered by three daughters-in-law, five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Note: Her mother's maiden name was Davies.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church here Saturday afternoon, Rev. Kirschner and Rev. Seward officiating. During the service Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lilly sang several hymns and her Sunday school class sang on of her favorite hymns, “In the Garden," as a tribute to the memory of one whom they loved and respected. The remains were laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery at Akron. The pallbearers were Waldon Fry, Philip Beaubien, Sr., Thos. Bruce, O.B. Lilly, Dyke Spaulding and M.W. Conway. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

The community extends sincerest sympathy to the bereaved relatives and will greatly miss the passing of one who served the community so faithfully.
