Everett Simon suffers fatal attack in the car
Everett Simon, 62, of 309 Seventh Ave. SW, was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart hospital late Friday afternoon after he was stricken while driving his car.
Dr. Sherman Lindell, the county medical examiner, said the cause of death was a heart attack.
Mr. Simon was employed as a mechanic for the Iowa Highway Commission here.
POLICE CHIEF Joe Sutton said Mr. Simon had been southbound on Second Ave. NW. Car tracks showed Mr. Simon's 1958 Pontiac started veering to the right before the vehicle entered the Plymouth St. intersection.
The vehicle went through the highway intersection and collided with a car owned by Elmer Athens, Le Mars, and parked in the lot on the east side of the First Baptist church.
Police were notified at 4:35 p.m. and Luken's ambulance, parked just a half block away, was called. Assisting Chief Sutton with the investigation was Patrolman Tom Laughton.
Front end damage was estimated at $300 to the Simon car. Right side damage totaled $500 to Mr. Athens' 1965 Chevrolet.
FUNERAL SERVICES for Mr. Simon will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Luken funeral home. Rev. Sherwood Haas of St. John United Church of Christ will officiate and burial will be in Hillside cemetery at Merrill.
He was born. April 22, 1930. on a farm near Hinton. For the past 30 years, he has been employed by the state highway commission working out of Le Mars. His parents were the late Leona Wagner and Jay Simon. His marriage to Clara Betsworth took place on March 17, 1930, at Elk Point.
Survivors are his wife: two daughters, Mrs. Orville (Colleen) Durr and Mrs. Peter (Jean) Brouwer, all of Le Mars; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
