Mrs. Elnora Calhoon Dies: Funeral Rites Planned Friday
Mrs. James (Elnora) Katherine Calhoon, 64, a resident of Le Mars for the last 50 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Utesch in Le Mars Tuesday after a six-year illness. Mrs. Calhoon suffered a stroke six years ago and had since made her home with her daughter. Mrs. Calhoon, the former Elnora Katherine Wilmes, daughter of the late John B. and Mary (Conorady) Wilmes, was born May 1, 1902, in Minnesota. She moved to Le Mars at the age of 16 and had since lived here. Her marriage to James Calhoon took place July 4, 1921, at St. James, Minn. Mrs. Calhoon operated the Westside Cafe in Le Mars for many years.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic church. Rev. Joseph Kerwin will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Luken funeral home.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Eva DeRaad of Hudson, S.D.; and Mrs. Dorothy Utesch, Le Mars; a sister, Mrs. John Hager, Dundee, Minn., two brothers, Raymond J. Wilmes of Le Mars and Arnold J. Wilmes of Merrill, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 5, 1963, three sisters, and two brothers. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
