     AKRON, Iowa -- John Elwin Huls, 59, of Sandpoint, Idaho, formerly of Akron, died Sunday (August 31, 1980) at his home of an apparent heart attack.

     Services will be a 2:00 P.M. Friday in the Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.  The Reverend Marvin Mueller will officiate.  Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Akron.  There will be a prayer service at 8:00 P.M. Thursday in the funeral home.

     Mr. Huls was born September 13, 1920, at Akron to John and Meta Onnen Huls and was reared in the Akron area.  He graduated from Westfield High School.  Following this he served from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Army.

     He married Dee Huddle August 11, 1945, at Sioux City, Iowa.

     He was a television repairman for several years and in 1955 he began working NASA in the space defense project.  During the following 12 years he was at Edwards Air Force Base in California while working on the defense projects.  Other locations during that time were Spokane, Washington where he worked on missile projects.

     In 1967 he moved to Ventura, California where he worked for Northup Aircraft Corp. and Burrough's Corp. until his health forced him to retire in 1978.

     In 1978 the couple moved to Sandpoint, Idaho.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church at Sandpoint and the Elks Lodge there.

     Survivors include the widow; one son, Lary of San Francisco, California; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Lena) Andresen of Le Mars, Iowa; three brothers, Chris of Sioux City, Iowa, William of Aberdeen, Idaho, and Marvin of Moorhead, Minnesota; two half-sisters, Mrs. (Dale) Vander Kooi of Merrill, Iowa, and Mrs. Don (Pearl) Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; and one half-brother, Herman Huls of Wynot, Nebraska.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry, and a sister, Mrs. Byron (Lizzie) O'Connor.
