Mention was briefly made in these columns last week of the death of S. W. McMillan, a resident of Akron for the past twenty-two years, who passed away in the Akron Hospital on Monday, October 23, 1933, of ailments incident to advanced years at the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 12 days.
Samuel Wesley McMillan was born in the state of Ohio, December 11, 1846. At the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Hardin county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Later he moved to Kansas, where he railroaded for eight years. He then located on a farm in Frontier county, Nebraska, where he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth E. Stedmen, who preceded him in death twenty-six years ago.
This union was blessed with four children—three sons, Edward, Fred and John, of Akron, Ia., and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Avery, of Valentine, Nebr., all of whom survive.
He came to Akron in 1911 and had since made his home here. On June 28, this year. Bsides the three sons and one daughter, he is survived by ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. McMillan was a man of upright character, industrious habits, kindly and sympathetic in all his contacts and a good and loyal citizen. He was a member of the Methodist church, and for many years held membership in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in Nebraska. The children and relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
Relatives from out of town at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harry E. Webster and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Martin, of Sioux City.
