Donald “Tony” Madden Jr, 68, of Merrill, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Ellendale, rural Merrill, Iowa. Reverend Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Parish Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. The Vigil Service and Mass will be uploaded to the Rexwinkel Funeral Home website following the services. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Donald Anthony Madden Jr was born August 7, 1952 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Donald Arthur Sr and Doris Dean (Thill) Madden. He grew up near Akron and attended kindergarten at Akron Community School until moving with his family to a farm near Kingsley, Iowa. He continued his schooling at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Kingsley.

Following his schooling, Tony farmed in Kingsley and Akron as well as worked for other farmers. He also worked many years at FS Repair in Kingsley. After farming in Kingsley, Tony and Patricia Bocian moved to rural Merrill, Iowa where he continued farming with his brothers, Jason, Roman and Russell. Currently, he was working for Vondrak Brothers Farms near Hinton, Iowa.

Survivors include his spouse of more than 35 years, Patty Bocian of Merrill, IA; their daughter, Katie (Collin) Rowland of Merrill, IA; 7 siblings: Vincent (Charlene) Madden of Sioux City, IA, Duane (Alberta) Madden of Akron, IA, Kathy (Dennis) Poeckes of Remsen, IA, Jason (Julie Ann) Madden of Akron, IA, Karen Jorgensen of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Roman (Lori) Madden of Akron, IA, and Russell (Sharon) Madden of Merrill, IA; a sister in law, Rose Marie DeFazio of Dakota Dunes, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers in laws, Robert Jorgensen and Michael DeFazio; and a nephew, Duane Nicholas Madden.
