Rites held for widow of long-time Akron doctor
Mrs. J.H. (Carolyn) Kerr, 96, former long-time Akron resident, died Sunday, June 21, 1981, in Kansas City where she had lived the last year and a half. She was the widow of long-time Akron physician and surgeon, Dr. J.H. Kerr.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Akron Baptist church. The Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Burial was in the Riverside cemetery under the direction of Schroeder funeral home of Akron.
Pallbearers were J.R. Kerr, Sr., J.R. Kerr, Jr., Eldon Huff, F.F. Kerr, Richard Bean and Mac Thorson.
Music was provided for the services by soloist Gary Tucker, accompanied by Mrs. Stuart Harris.
Carolyn Bird was born in Linn Grove, Iowa January 25, 1885. In 1909 she came to Akron where she taught school for two years. She married Dr. Kerr in 1911. He died here in 1951.
Mrs. Kerr moved to Pueblo, Colo, in 1969 and lived there until her move to Kansas City.
She was a charter member of Chapter JC P.E.O. in Iowa, also a member of Chapter EE in Colorado, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Grand Matron.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Harper Kerr of Kansas City; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
