DEATH SUMMONS PIONEER WOMAN OF UNION COUNTY
Last Rites Are Held Friday Afternoon For Mrs. Emily Holthe
A brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. Emily Holthe in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Wm. O. Satter, west of town, in Union county, S.D., on Tuesday, April 23, 1940, after a short illness, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 15 days.
Emily Frantzen was born June 8, 1868, at Coon Valley, Wisconsin. At the age of six years she, with her parents and two sisters, came west, traveling in a covered wagon. They located in Union county, S.D., (then Dakota Territory), on July 7, 1874. She was confirmed in the Brule Creek Lutheran church on April 29, 1883, by Rev. Dale. On March 23, 1893, she was united in marriage with Andrew Holthe, and they continued to reside in Union county. Her husband preceded her in death on January 29, 1921. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alma Satter; a sister, Mrs. Sina Larsen, of Elk Point, S.D., and one grandson, Wayne Satter. A woman of noble traits of character, she was greatly beloved in the community where she had resided so many years, and a host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Ross Funeral Home in Akron, Rev. E.A. Anderson, of Alcester, conducting the services. A quartet, composed of Mrs. Amos Kjose; Myrtle Kjose, Enoch Hofstad and O.G. Groethe, accompanied by Mrs. Ole Haug, rendered several beautiful selections. The pallbearers were Edwin Kjose, Oscar Kjose, Amos Kjose, Clarence Kjose, Julius Price and Carl Anderson. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Akron.
