Matt Werley Of Elgin Township Hangs Himself
Matt Werley, 57, of Elgin township took his own life by, hanging himself early Monday morning at his farm.
Mr. Werley was married on September 3 to Mrs. Elizabeth Wellong and was living in Struble since his marriage. He arose about 4 o'clock and told his wife he was going out to the farm. She remarked that it was pretty early to be starting out but he said he was going anyway and that was the last seen of him alive. Coroner S; H. Luken was called out to make an investigation and pronounced it a case of suicide. No motive is assigned for the act. The discovery of the dead body was made by a brother.
Matt Werley was born September 28, 1883, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Werley, early settlers, and farmed here all his life. He leaves his wife, one sister, Mrs. George Lang, four brothers, John, Henry, Will and Charles, all residents in this vicinity.
The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Luken funeral home, Rev. R. R. Hunger of St. John's Evangelical church officiating, and interment made in the city cemetery.
