From: Le Mars Globe, September 20, 1899

Mrs. Michael Wagner, of Remsen, who suffered a stroke of paralysis about twenty months ago, died at the home of her son, Charles Wagner, on Friday afternoon at the age of seventy-nine years. The funeral was held on Monday at St. Joseph’s church in Le Mars and at her request her remains were laid to rest beside those of her children. The funeral was very largely attended by people both from Remsen and Le Mars and probably more relatives were in attendance than at any other funeral held in this county. All of her children were present except the ones in Oklahoma who could not possibly reach here in time for the funeral.

Deceased’s maiden name was Anna Mary Gobert. She was born in Haferling, Grand Duche, Luxemburg, Germany, January 3, 1822, and was united in marriage with Michael Wagner in 1846. They came to America in 1856, locating in Springbrook, Iowa, and in 1876 came to Plymouth county locating on a farm in Marion township where they resided up to twelve years ago when they moved to Remsen and made their home with her son, Charles Wagner, who with his wife gave her every care in her last sickness. Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wagner celebrated their golden wedding and she was in excellent health, but was stricken down a few months later.

Deceased was the mother of ten children, seven of who survive her, the others having passed away after having arrived at man’s estate. The children are Chas G. Wagner and Mrs. Margaret Galles, of Remsen; Mrs. Elizabeth Anthony, this county; Mrs. Beechie, of Oklahoma; Mrs. Nic Hentges, Le Mars; Mrs. Nicholas Zeig, of Marion township, and Chas. B. Wagner, of Granville.

She leaves four brothers, Nicholas, Charles and John Hoffman of Le Mars; and Dominick Hoffman, of Dubuque, and a husband who has been in ill health for some time. Deceased was a devout member of the Catholic church and her gentle Christian ways had endeared her to hundreds during her long life in this county.
