DEATH OF CARL ROEPKE
Was a Well-Known Farmer of Lincoln Township
Carl Roepke, a well-known farmer of Lincoln township, died at a hospital in Sioux City on Wednesday, July 4. Mr. Roepke was Injured in a fall from a wagon some three weeks ago and had been in the hospital since.
Carl Roepke was born in Pomerania, Germany, on October 12, 1857, where he received his education and grew to manhood. When he was twenty-five years of age he came to America and located at Joliet, 111., where he worked in a factory for some time. He then removed to Miami county, Kansas, where he rented land and engaged in general farming. He later returned to Joliet where he remained six years when he came to Iowa and located in Plymouth county in 1894 and a few years later he bought a farm of 160 acres in Lincoln township and later, through hard work and Industry, bought another farm, owning 320 acres of land.
As a young man, Carl Roepke was united in marriage to Henrietta Manthei and to this union were born the following children: Emma, Frank, Fritz, Henry, Elsie, Ludwig, Erech, and Eduart.
Mr. Roepke was an active member of the German Lutheran church and was prominent in the social life of the community.
The funeral was held on Sunday at two o'clock from the home and services were held at three o'clock at the Lincoln township Lutheran church
