Alton Girl Killed in One-Car Crash.
Marilyn Mae Konz, 21-year-old Alton college student, was killed early Sunday morning in a one-car crash on the Brauch corner curve on highway 3 about a mile and a half east of LeMars.

Miss Konz was thrown from the car. She was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital. Luken’s ambulance was summoned.

Drive of the car coming from the east was John Carl Harriman, 22, of Minneapolis. He was shaken up in the accident. Harriman was taken to the hospital and released.

HIGHWAY Patrolman Larry Colglazier reported the 1960 Chevrolet went out of control as it passed the Brauch curve and took out three guard posts. He said the posts ripped the door from the passenger side of the car. The accident occurred at 1:50 a.m.

The vehicle was towed to LeMars by Stoos wrecker and then taken to Alton.

Miss Konz’s death is the 12th fatality in Plymouth County this year.

A SENIOR at Briar Cliff college, Sioux City, Marilyn Mae was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Konz, route 1, Alton. She was born Aug. 23, 1942, at Alton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic church, Alton, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Zeno Reising officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Rosaries were scheduled at 3 and 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s chapel in Alton.

Surviving are her parents, Leonard and Esther Arens Konz; two brothers and a sister, Gary, Anthony, and Debbie, all at home, and the parental grandfather, Matthew Konz, Alton.

FUNERAL FOR MISS KONZ TUESDAY.
Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alton for Miss Marilyn Mae Konz, 21, who was killed in a one car crash early Sunday near LeMars.

Miss Konz was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Konz of Alton and a senior in home making at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, where she took part in many activities.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. The rosary was recited at St. Mary’s Chapel at Alton Monday evening. The body was taken to Alton at 3 p.m. today.

Miss Konz was born August 23, 1942 at Alton. He mother was the former Esther Arens. Survivors include her parents, two brothers, Gary and Anthony and a sister, Debbie, all at home. Also surviving is her paternal grandfather, Matt Konz, of Alton.

Miss Konz was a passenger in a car driven by her fiancé, 23 year old John Carl Harriman, of Minneapolis. The car was traveling west on highway 3, two miles east of LeMars when it struck a guard rail and ripped the door from the passenger side.

The victim was thrown from the car and was dead on arrival at Sacred Heart Hospital. Luken’s ambulance was called at 2:05 a.m. The accident happened at what is called the “Brauch corner.” The victim was thrown from the car when it crossed into the ditch. The car halted in a vacant lot. The driver was not admitted to the hospital.

Investigating the accident was Larry Colglazier, Iowa Highway patrolman.

Msgr. A. W. Behrens, Catholic superintendent of schools of the Sioux City diocese spent the early morning hours with the Konz family after the accident.
