From: Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, November 25, 1897

Frank Stoll, of Elgin township, died Tuesday at his home after a brief illness, caused by appendicitis. He had been complaining of stomach trouble for some time past but did not apprehend that anything serious was the matter and he was in town last Friday on business and feeling fairly well in health. On Sunday he called in Dr. Mood, of Struble, and the doctor pronounced appendicitis to be the cause of his trouble. On Monday Dr. Hillebrand, of Le Mars, and Dr. Warren, of Sioux City, were sent for to perform an operation in hope of obtaining relief for the sufferer and they went up in the evening, but was too late to assist the patient as gangrene had already set in and death ensued early this morning.

Frank Stoll was one of the prominent and well-known citizens of Plymouth county and was beloved and respected in the community of which he had been so long a member. He was born in the province of Mecklenberg-Schwerin in Germany and when a young man emigrated to the United States, settling near Bloomington, Ill. He came to Plymouth county some twenty-one years ago where he has since resided. He was a loving father and husband and a good neighbor and an upright business man. He leaves a wife and 9 children to mourn his loss. He was about 50 years of age.
