Grace L. Visnow

Grace L. Visnow, 93, Countryside Retirement Home, died Tuesday in a Sioux City hospital following a short illness.

There will be no funeral service. The body was donated to the University of Iowa anatomy department according to her request Christy Morningside Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Visnow was born April 5, 1895, at Akron. She was raised in Akron and moved to Sioux City in 1919, and lived here since that time. She graduated with a masters degree fromm Morningside College. She taught elementary education in the Sioux City school system for 42 years.

In 1963, she was awarded the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. As a volunteer she taught reading, writing and citizenship to foreign-born Sioux City residents at the Mary J. Treglia Community House. She received an award for her many years of service.

She was a member of the National Association of retired Teachers and the first Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Maurice Visnow of Sioux City and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in her name for the purchase of library books in Milwaukee, Wis.

Some incorrect information was submitted for the obituary for Grace L. Visnow, 93, Countryside Retirement Home, which was published in Sunday's Journal. Amemorial has been established in her name with the Sioux City Public Library for the purchase of books at the Morningside branch.
