Note: According to her husband's obituary her first name is Betty or Bettie and her maiden name is Gilbard.

Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. John Erickson, south of town, in St. John's Lutheran hospital in Sioux City, following an operation for gallstones and complications.

Mrs. Erickson was born in Mangskog parish, in the province of Varmland, Sweden, October 12, 1873. At the age of eighteen she came to this country and worked for a couple of years in Sioux City. On July 19, 1893, she was united in marriage with John E. Erickson. during their entire wedded life they have made their home in Plymouth county, the last few years on their farm four miles south of Akron. Their marriage was blessed with six children of whom five survive the mother.

Their oldest daughter, Mabel, died some three years ago. During the last few years Mrs. Erickson had not been in the best of health. Two weeks ago she submitted to an operation in hopes of securing help; but no relief was obtained and she passed away a week ago Wednesday, May 31, 1916, at the age of 42 years, y months, and 19 days. Besides the husband and five children she leaves an aged father and two sisters in Sweden; one sister, Mrs. Kolen, in Sioux City and two brothers in this country, one of whom, John Gilbert, lives in this community, as well as a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held from the Scandinavian Lutheran church in Akron last Sunday afternoon. At this occasion the pastor, Rev. D. A. Knock, paid special tribute to her humble and true Christian character and pointed out what she had been to her family and the church in which she always had been a faithful worker. There was a large assemblage of sympathizing friends of the family at the service and there were many beautiful floral offerings. Interment took place in Riverside cemetery.

Among the relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Kolen from Sioux City and a brother-in-law of the deceased, August Carlson, and his family from Sioux City.
