Death of Plymouth County Pioneer
Mrs. Amanda Giffrow, well known pioneer of Plymouth county, passed away at the home of her son, Ernest Giffrow, in Merrill, Tuesday, March 19th. Mrs. Giffrow was born at Von Priesen, Germany, Nov. 27, 1860, so she was past 74 years of age at the time of her death. She came to America when 18 years old and in 1882 she was united in marriage to William Giffrow.
In 1884 they came to Plymouth county and lived for years on a farm several miles southeast of Hawarden. In 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Giffrow moved to LeMars where Mr. Giffrow died a number of years ago. Since her husband’s death Mrs. Giffrow made her home with her children.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Raveling of Remsen; Mrs. Ralph Kimberlin of LeMars; Ernest Giffrow of Merrill; and Richard Giffrow of Sioux City.
