Vernon J. Staab, 87 years old, of Remsen, IA died Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary and 4th Degree Chalice Presentation all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Vernon was born on Dec. 8, 1927, at rural Remsen, IA the son of William and Clara (Heidesch) Staab. He was raised and educated in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School.
On Dec. 28, 1950, he married Edith Minten at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, IA. The couple made their home on a farm north of Remsen until moving into Remsen in Feb. 1990.
Vernon was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly, past Grand Knight of Monsignor Schemel Council and past District Deputy. He was also an usher at church, former Luxembourger Brotherhood of Remsen, former director of the Plymouth Co-Op Oil Co, former director of the Plymouth County Farm Bureau and he was a Golden Harvest Seed Salesman.
Survivors include: his wife Edith of Remsen; his seven children, Linda Hofmeister of Cedar Rapids, IA, Anthony (Nancy) Staab of Hubbard, NE, Martha (Richard) Sokolowski of Remsen, IA, Diane (Robert) Vanderlinde of Colton, SD, Ronald Staab of West Des Moines, IA, Patricia (Michael) Onken of Williamsburg, IA and Steven Staab of Remsen, IA; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma (Irvin) Schroeder and Doris Braun both of Remsen, IA; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by, his parents, one grandson, Kenneth Staab, one son-in-law, Ronald Mayer, one brother-in-law, Arthur Braun, several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Casketbearers will be six of his children.
Honorary Bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
