Dorothy Metz Conway

THURSTON, Neb. --Dorothy Metz Conway, 89, died Wednesday, April 28, 1993, at the Pender Community Hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Homer with the Rev. Jeff Zyla officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in South Sioux City. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7-9 p.m., at Becker Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Mrs. Conway, the former Dorothy Metz, was born Nov. 6, 1903, the daughter of Adolph and Eliza (Muir) Metz. She was raised in Akron, Iowa. She attended nurses training at St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City. She married Emmet Conway April 10, 1929. The couple lived all their married life on a farm near Dakota City. He died in August 1973. She was a buyer for T. S. Martin Co. in Sioux City and was employed by Atokad Race Track in South Sioux City for 29 years, retiring in 1981.

During World War II, she taught first aid and home nursing in Dakota County. She was an active member of St. Cornelius Catholic Church and the Altar Society and in 1989 was chosen Woman of the Year from the this district. She was a charter member of South Salem Community Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Fritz Renz of Thurston and Pat and her husband, Ron Grubbof Sioux City; a son, Michael of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Marie Metz of Denver; two brothers, Clarence of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cliff of Medford, Ore.; a brother-in-law and his wife, C.P. and Helen Conway of South Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joy Renz; a granddaughter-in-law, Sharon Renz; three sisters; and four brothers.

Pallbearers will be Tim, Tom, Cary, and Rob Renz, Terry Simonsen and Daryl Harrison.
