DIED
HITZEMANN--At the family home in Akron, Iowa, Tuesday morning, September 17, 1907, Verna, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Hitzemann, aged 5 years and 3 days.
It has truly been said, "There is nothing so sad as the death of a little child," and the fact is emphasized in this instance. Only two weeks ago little Verna was at play as usual with the other children and just entered the Sisters' school when siezed with what the attending physicians diagnosed as the dread cerebo-menigitis (an afflection of of the brain tissues) complication of typhoid fever. The child's suffering were intense and it was realized several days before the end came that there was slight hope for her recovery. A trained nurse from Sioux City was in attendance.
Verna was five years old last Saturday, which was also her papa's birthday. She was a bright lovable little girl, and her untimely taking away leaves an aching void in that family circle. The bereaved parents have the full sympathy of this community.
A TENDER TRIBUTE
The Angel of Death stole into the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Hitzemann and carried away the soul of little Verna.
Her little playmates of St. Joseph's schol, anxious to prove their love draped her desk in the school room and covered it with flowers. The tender tribute of these little ones must be indeed pleasing to Him, who has said "Let the little ones come unto Me, for such is the Kingdom of Heaven."
The funeral took place Thursday morning at 11 o'clock, in St. Patrick's church. The children marched in procession from the home to the church.
The pall-bearers were her little companions, Dorothy Kuborn, Irene Hitzemann, Katie Weldenfeller and Florence Page.
Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
Among the relatives coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Hitzemann's mother, Mrs. Kate Simeon, of Ashton, Iowa; her sisters, Mrs. Aug. Lucken of Hartford, S. D., Mrs. Peter Mulr and husband of Sioux City; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Peter Simeon, and her niece, Miss Tina Feuchter, of Sioux City. Mr. Hitzemann's mother returned from Dysart, Iowa where she had been visiting.
