Ivan Arthur Finzen III

Ivan Arthur Finzen III, 48, of Pipestone, Minnesota, formerly of Akron, Iowa, died of cancer Tuesday, August 15, 1995, in the Pipestone with the Rev. Craig Lundstad-Vogt officiating. Burial was in New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone. Hartquist Funeral Home made the arrangements.

Casketbearers were Ray Gonnerman, Dave Ross, Bryan Fransen, Kevin Bitterman, Larry Snyder, Gary Van Hove, and Pam Van Hove.

Mr. Finzen was born June 20, 1947, the son of Ivan and Elizabeth (Graham) Finzen, in Akron, Iowa where he was raised and attended school. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. He graduated from Akron High school in 1965. He competed in track and was involved in FFA. He was named an Iowa Star Farmer. He graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars with a BS degree in business administration. He served in the U. S. Army as a Spec 5 in Korea and Germany. After his discharge in 1972, he returned to Akron to farm.

June 22, 1974, he married Nancy Jo Severtson in Valley Sppring, S. D. They farmed near Akron until 1982, when they moved to South Dakota. In 1989, they moved to Pipestone, Monn., where he worked for Dr. Sybesma. In 1991 he became employed by Simplot Soilbuilders in Hatfield, Minn. where he continued to work until the time of his death.

Arthur was a member of First Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minn. He was a quiet man who loed people and nature. His family was most important in his life next to his Lord whom he worshipped faithfully.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Finzen of Pipestone; five children, Ivan Finzen IV and his wife Shelly of Cuncil Bluffs, Ia. Martin A. Finzen, Angela R. Finzen, Amanda J. Finzen, and Valerie J. Finzen, all of Pipestone; his mother, Elazebeth Finzen of Akron; two brothers Ronald Finzen and Matthew Finzen both of Westfield; two sisters, Suzanne Lundgren of Sioux City, and Jeanette Davis of Le Mars; 14 nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.
