JOHN SCHROEDER DIES

Was One of Early Settlers in the Vicinity of Remsen

John Schroeder, who died at his home near Remsen June 16, was one of the oldest residents of this community, both in point of years and in point of residence. He was born on December 14, 1843, in the village of Beckerich, Canton Reinger, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and after attaining manhood he engaged in farming in that country. At his native home he was united in marriage in 1880 to Lena Treinen and soon after their marriage the couple came to the United States, settling in Chicago, where they spent but a short time visiting with friends. Later they went to the town of Luxemburg, Iowa, where they remained with other friends and with relatives for four months, and then came to Remsen. After spending about ten months with friends in this vicinity, they purchased a farm south of town and made this their home continually until death took Mrs. Schroeder, after which Mr. Schroeder made his home with his children.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning with services in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Remsen at 9:30 o’clock. The funeral mass was read by the Rev. J. Hausman, and was largely attended by friends and relatives.

Surviving the deceased are the following children: Margaret, now Mrs. P. Bruscher, of Le Mars; John J. Schroeder and Joe Schroeder, of Remsen, and Annie, now Mrs. Math Falls, (actually Feller) near Oyens.
