Delores Stinton, 94, of Akron, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Delores Sylvia Vanderham was born July 31, 1924, in Akron, the daughter of Henry and Marie Vanderham. She attended country school in Plymouth County and later graduated from Akron High School.
She was united in marriage to Lowell B. Stinton on June 5, 1943, in Junction City, Kansas. She moved with Lowell while he was in the service. Following his discharge, they made their home on a farm near Akron. They farmed near Akron until their retirement in 1979. Following their retirement, they moved to Akron. Lowell died Jan. 13, 2000. Delores continued to make her home in Akron.
Through the years, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, gardening and baking. Delores made many beautiful afghans over the years for many to enjoy. She always had delicious cookies on hand for her grandchildren.
Delores and Lowell enjoyed many fishing trips together. After Lowell’s passing, she continued fishing trips with her children.
She was a member of Saint Paul Church in Plymouth County and Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.
Survivors include a daughter: Kathy (Richard) Martin of Rowan; a son: Terry (Jeane) Stinton of Branson, Missouri; five grandchildren: Christine Klave of Independence; Judy Larson of Dows; Tracy (Heidi) Klave of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Wendy (Jim) Ross of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Lori Stinton of St. Pete Beach, Florida; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie Vanderham; her husband, Lowell B. Stinton; a grandson-in-law: Linn Larson; and her siblings: Sylvester Vanderham and a brother in infancy.
Delores’ Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m., Tuesday, at Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. The family will be present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service will follow at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. until the celebration time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
