Gerald “Jerry” Hodapp, 85, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 2, 2018 at his home in Merrill.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. James Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Military honors will be provided by the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 of Merrill. Inurnment will be at a later date at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Gerald Dean Hodapp was born July 7, 1933 in Merrill, Iowa, the son of Claude “Lee” and Anastasia (Simpson) Hodapp. He grew up in Merrill and attended school in Merrill.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Merrill.

Jerry worked for various businesses in the area including Jolly Time Popcorn in Sioux City until his retirement.

He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill and later became a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars. He was also a member of the Oleson-Halweg American Legion Post 125 in Merrill and enjoyed going to the Merrill Senior Center. Through the years, he enjoyed bowling and traveling to Arkansas to visit family.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and their spouses: Gene (Ida) Hodapp and Richard (Judy) Hodapp; and two (correction=3) nephews: Ronald Allen Hodapp, Gary Hodapp and Dennis Hodapp.
