Gilbert “Gib” Wagner, 74, of Le Mars, and former longtime Remsen resident, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1991, at the Le Mars hospital.
Services were held on Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Monsignor Michael D. Sennett officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen under the direction of the Luedtke-Feurerstein Funeral Home, Le Mars.
Mr. Wagner was born Jan. 26, 1917, in Remsen, the son of J.P. and Emma (Bohlke) Wagner. He was raised in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Parochial School. He married Marie Galles June 3, 1941, at St. Mary’s Church in Remsen. The couple farmed northeast of Remsen in Meadow Township for many years. In 1965 they moved to Remsen where he worked for many years at the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator.
Mr. Wagner was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a 50-year member and Legion of Honor member of Catholic Order of Foresters in Remsen Local Court, where he was a past trustee, youth director, insurance salesman and Vice Chief Ranger. He was a Chief Ranger for five years. He held offices in the State Court where he was a trustee and a State Vice Chief Ranger. He was the State Chief Ranger for seven years. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus in Remsen.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Larry (Connie) Stinton of Phoenix, Ariz., Lynne Kolling of Le Mars, Mrs. Thomas (Barbara) Small of Sioux City, and Mrs. Phil (Gwen) Swanson of Spencer; three sons and their wives, James and Mary Wagner of Kingman, Ariz., Jan and Candice Wagner of Le Mars and Jay and Rhonda Wagner of Alton; 21 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Reynold and his wife Virginia Wagner of Denver, Colo., and a sister Mrs. Don (Mary Jane) Kellen of Le Mars.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
