JAMES ANTHONY PIES
James Pies, 36, of Summit, SD, died of cancer on Tuesday, October 20, 1998, at his home in Summit.

Services were held Friday, October 23, 1998, at Ortley Free Lutheran Church, Ortley, SD, with Reverend David Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Ortley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike Christofferson, Richard Schultz, Doug Bragge, Gerald Heeren, Dale Clark, and Mary Onnen.

Honorary pallbearers were all his many friends and the employees of Minnesota Rubber.

Pianist was Brenda Jorgenson with Dale Clark as soloist.

James Anthony Pies was born February 21, 1962 to Albert and Margaret (Doane) Pies at Akron, Iowa.

He was baptized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Ellendale, Iowa.

He grew up in Akron and graduated from the Akron High School in 1980.

He was employed for Bojens and Seymer Company building grain bins in the Akron area. In 1987 he worked as a brick layer for Sioux City Brick and Tile Company.

On April 16, 1988, he married Robin Swoyer in the Big Spring Baptist Church in Alcester, SD. The couple made their home in Akron until 1990, when they moved to Watertown until 1991, when they moved to Waubay. He worked for Young’s Refrigeration in Watertown and in 1992 began working for Minnesota Rubber Co. In June the couple moved to Summit.

He was a member of Ortley Free Lutheran Church, the Machinist Union Local 2357 of Watertown Trades and Labor, and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He loved hunting, fishing, bowling, footballs and activities with his family.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and two daughters, Andrew, Cody, Ashley and Celsey all at home, his parents of Marvin, SD; one brother, Steve Pies of Marvin, SD; one sister, Bernadine Breske of Summit, SD; and his grandmother, Julia Pies of Sioux City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nicolas Pies, Allen and Josephine Doane, and a brother-in-law, Ed Breske.
