Fred Onken, 55, Canton, S. D., who suffered a right wrist fracture, facial lacerations and some rib fractures in a car-truck crash Wednesday, was termed in “fair” condition at St. Joseph Mercy hospital. He was injured when his car crashed into the rear of a truck on a country road in Perry township about 12 miles northeast of Sioux City.

Fred Onken, 55, Canton, S. D., who was injured Thursday in a car-truck accident about 12’ miles northwest of Sioux City in Perry township, died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital.

The body was taken in the Heaton-Westcott funeral home.

Life’s End

FRED D. ONKEN DIES AT SIOUX CITY HOSPITAL OF INJURIES SUFFERED IN CRASH

Fred D. Onken, 55, Canton, S. D., died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in a car-truck crash in Plymouth county Sept. 14.

Mr. Onken was injured when a car in which he was riding crashed into the rear of a truck on a country road in Perry township, two miles west of highway 7. Driver of the truck was Thorn Rasmussen, Hinton.

Mr. Onken was born March 30, 1905, in Grant township, the son of Onno and Augusta M. Martfeld Onken. A farm laborer, he had resided in the Le Mars vicinity until 1952, when he moved to South Dakota.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. E. F. (Marilyn) Karley Jr., Sioux City; three grandchildren; his father, Onno Onken of Le Mars; two brothers and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a son.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mauer funeral home. Rev. L. L. Belk of St. John American Lutheran church officiated. Burial was in Christ Lutheran cemetery in Grant township.
