DEATH OF A PIONEER
HENRY WINCHESTER HOMESTEADED IN PRESTON
SUFFERED FOR SEVERAL MONTHS

Henry Winchester, a pioneer resident of Plymouth comity, died at his home on High street, on Tuesday at eight o'clock, Mr. Winchester had been in poor health for the past seven months, suffering from stomach trouble. He bore up against his illness with fortitude, taking to his bed a brief time before the end came to great suffering and pain.
Henry Royal Winchester was born in Toronto, Canada, on June 11, 1838, and was 77 years, 9 months, and 26 days old at the time of his demise. He lived in his native land until 1870.
In 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Powell at Montreal, Canada, and two years after they came to America and settled in Illinois.
In 1872 they came to Plymouth county and homesteaded land in Preston township. They toiled hard through the pioneer times and the difficulties which beset the very early settlers.
In 1876 Mrs. Winchester died. Two years later he was united in marriage with Miss Rose Powell. They remained on the farm until 1898, when they moved to LeMars, which has been their home since.
While a resident of Preston township Mr. Winchester was a member of the Crathorne Presbyterian church. He was an affectionate husband and father and was well liked by his associates.
With the widow he leaves several sons and daughters to mourn his death. They are: Robert, living in Canada; Mrs. J. F. Meade, Akron; Mrs. Henry Fredericks, of LeMars; John and George Winchester, of Newcastle, Neb.; Mrs. Jasper Jennings, of LeMars; Will J. Winchester and Mrs. Will McInnis, of Hurley, S.D.
Funeral services were held yesterday. A brief service was held at the home and services were held at two o’clock at the Crathorne church and the interment made in the Crathorne Cemetery. Rev. H. V. Comin, of the First Presbyterian church conducted the funeral services.
