Funeral services held Friday for former Akron resident
Funeral services for Kyle Squires, 82, of Brandt, S.D., were held at the United Methodist church, Friday, June 28, 1974, at 2 p.m.
Mr. Squires, a longtime prominent Brandt area man passed away June 25, 1974, at the Deuel County Memorial hospital. Mr. Squires was a former Akron resident and business man.
He was born March 20, 1892, in Union county, S.D., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Squires. He was raised in Union county and in 1918 moved to Akron where he sold Buick automobiles.
He married Grace Margaret Reinecke, June 16, 1920, the couple lived in Watertown, S.D. where he sold Oldsmobile automobiles. He transferred back to Akron, and took the Buick dealership. In 1927 he moved to a farm in Union county, moving to Brandt in 1943 where he farmed until his retirement in 1960.
Mr. Squires was a member of the United Methodist church. He served on the township board for several years and was a director of the Farmers Union Oil board for many years. He served as Deuel County Commissioner from 1961 to 1968.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Keith and Ralph of Brandt, Thurston of Orlando, Fla., and Lyle of Jasper, Texas, three daughters, Mrs. John (Ardis) Elenkiwich, Mrs. Ingvald (Janet) Nielsen both of Brandt, and Mrs. Marvin (Anita) Hanson of Revillo, thirty-two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Carlson and Mrs. Andrew (Blanche) Bredall both of Akron, and also several nieces and nephews in the Akron area.
Those attending the funeral services from Akron were; Mrs. Laura Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bredall, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carlson and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Sanow of Le Mars.
