Ervin W. Mace, Sr.

Ervin W. Mace, Sr., 78, of Yankton, South Dakota, died Saturday, September 25, 1999, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

Services were held Wednesday, September 29, 1999, at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa with Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Mace was born January 2, 1921, in Milltown, South Dakota, the son of Art and Elsie (Caylor) Mace. He married Margaret (“Tiny”) Cook on December 10, 1947, in Vermillion, South Dakota; she died in 1968.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany and France in WW II. He was a metal lather for many years, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Metal Lather’s Local #113 of Sioux City.

Survivors include seven sons, Ed and Jerrry Mace, both of Yankton, South Dakota, Alan, Leo, Travis, and Erv., Jr. and his wife Shannon, all of Sioux City, Iowa; three daughters, Mary Kelley, and her husband Jerry of Hawarden, Iowa, LeAnn Cole of San Antonio, Texas, Stephanie Orozco and her husband Ricardo of Sioux City, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Joe Dvorak of Scotland, South Dakota, Helen Tinbusch of Grafton, Iowa; 2 brothers, Raymond and his wife Shirley and Willie and his wife Marge all of New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald; a grandson; two great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Clarence, Jimmy and Vernon.
