HOLD LAST RITES FOR MRS. E. WILKEN LAST WEDNESDAY

Had Been Resident of This Territory For Nearly Forty Years

Brief mention was made in these columns last week regarding the death of Mrs. Eilert Wilken, who for nearly forty years had been a resident of Chatsworth and vicinity.

Death came to Mrs. Wilken on Sunday evening, September 1, at the Akron Hospital, following an operation for cancer, and her untimely taking away came as a grevious shock to those near and dear to her.

Katherine Heeren was born at Toulon, ILL., August 16, 1875, so she was of her death. When a young girl she came to Plymouth County and located near Le Mars and in 1893 she was united in marriage with Eilert Wilken. About forty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wilken came to the vicinity of Chatsworth and farmed until 13 years ago when they moved to Chatsworth.

She was the mother of six children, who with the father are left to mourn her passing. The children are Mrs. Tony Bockelman, Wilman Wilken and Mrs. Jake Vogelzang, of Hawarden; Eilert, Jr. and John Wilken, of Chatsworth, Louis Wilken, Akron. She also leaves five brothers and three sisters, Albert, Herman, Harm, and John Heeren, of LeMars; William Heeren, of Sioux City; Mrs. Oscar Onken, of Morrison, Ill., and Mrs. Wm. Goarth and Mrs. Henry Baak of Howard, S.D.

Mrs. Wilken was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and she was a loyal worker in the church and in the Ladies’ Aid. She possessed a kindly disposition and was ever willing to help anyone who was less fortunate than she. In the home she was willing to make any sacrifice for her family and their welfare was ever her uppermost though. Her death is a severe blow to her husband and sincere sympathy is extended to him and the children in their loss of a kind and loving wife and mother.

Funeral services were held from the home in Chatsworth and from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, on Wednesday, with Rev. F. A. Meske in charge. Acting as pallbearers were: Gerd Ludwigs, Sr., Wm. Ludwigs, John Miniets, August Osterhun, Carl Schwiesow Lande. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
