William (Bill) McKinney

William (Bill) McKinney, 96, Richland, S.D., died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1987) in the Akron City Convalescent Care Center in Akron. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. The Rev. Nova Wells officiated and services were under the direction of the Dickison-Michaelson funeral home at Kingsley.

Mr. McKinney was born July 15, 1891 at County Tyrone, Ireland, son of John and Mary Mulholand McKinney. He came to the Pierson area from Ireland as a young man. He married Elsie Martin July 20, 1922, at Sioux City. He had worked many years for the Chicago Northwestern railroad and after retirement, was caretaker for the Kingsley cemetery. He served in the U.S. army during World War I and saw action in Europe. He was a member of the Elk Point VFW 915 and a charter member of the VFW #2020.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie, of Richland; one daughter, Mrs. Elvin (Rachael) Cacak, of Richland; one sister, Agnes Blair of Winnipeg, Canada; seven grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three daughters, a son, six sisters and two brothers.
