Monday, May 21, 2018Linda R. Prieksat, 61, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at her residence in Sioux City.
Linda Renee Hillrichs, the daughter of Lowell and Cornelia (Ritter) Hillrichs, was born July 25, 1956, in Hawarden. She grew up on various farms in Sioux County and graduated from West Sioux High School in Hawarden.
Linda was united in marriage with Harlan Prieksat on June 9, 1979, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. The couple resided in Girard, Kansas and Grand Island, Nebraska. Linda worked as a legal secretary at various firms over 30 years before retiring when the couple moved to Sioux City in 2005.
Linda enjoyed gardening, crafts, festively decorating for holidays, and cooking her family's favorite dishes. She loved farm scenery, especially windmills and barns.
She was a devout Lutheran whose faith never wavered, even in times of struggle.
A truly selfless woman, family was central to Linda's life. All of her family, but especially her children, always knew that she was their number one fan.
Linda is survived by her husband, Harlan, of Sioux City; two children: Matthew (Erika) Prieksat of Anchorage, Alaska, and Rachel Prieksat of La Vista, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Khira Chernikoff-Freeman and Noah Prieksat; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Mark.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today (Monday) at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside, in Sioux City, with a prayer service to follow at 7 p.m. The memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City with burial in Resthaven Cemetery, Le Mars.
