Funeral services for Engeline Marie Dirks, 78, who died Monday at her home in Le Mars, were held Thursday afternoon at the home at 1:30 p. m. and at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant township at 2:00 o'clock. The Rev. Eldor Freuhling conducted the service and burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Dirks and her husband had observed their 50th wedding anniversary last month at their home at 301 Second Ave. N. W. in Le Mars. She had been sick for the past two and a half years.
Engeline Marie Frerichs was born Nov. 1, 1876, in Germany, but came to this country as a child. Her marriage to Eilert E. Dirks took place Dec. 5, 1895, at Christ Lutheran church by the Rev. J. D. Meyer. They spent most of their life in Plymouth county except for two years in Oklahoma and a year spent in Nebraska.
She is survived by her husband and six children, four daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. L. H. (Carrie) Bruns, Mrs. John (Lena) Hartman, Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Collman, Mrs. Joe (Edna) Hardacre. all of LeMars; and John Dirks of Le Mars and Martin Dirks of Sioux City. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Theresa Harms of Le Mars, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as many niece’s nephews and other relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents, a son, a daughter and her six brothers. She was a member of the. Dorcas Society of Christ Lutheran church. Pallbearers were John and Martin Dirks, Louis Bruns, John Hartman, Clarence Collman and Joe Hardacre
