LE MARS, Iowa -- . Hiles of Le Mars died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating.

Helen Jean Peterson was born in Jackson, Minn., the daughter of William and Bertha (Sanderson) Peterson. She was raised on a farm near Alpha, Minn., and graduated from Jackson High School. She married Jacob Hiles on June 7, 1947, in Alpha.

She was a longtime resident of Merrill, Iowa, and Le Mars. She worked as a nurses aide at several care facilities in Le Mars. She was a member of the Senior Companions Program and Friends of the Library. She was an avid reader and patron of the Le Mars Library.

Survivors include two sons, Franklyn Hiles and his wife, Cheryl Bolser of Le Mars, and William Hiles and his wife, Shirley of Bellflower, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Begnoche and her partner, Jim Becker of Le Mars; seven grandchildren, Lisa Barry, Matthew Barry, Michael Begnoche, Kimberlee Hiles, Carl Hiles, Mia Janelle Hiles and Jillian Joy Hiles; two great-granddaughters; and a brother, Kenneth Peterson of Alpha.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hiles Barry; a son, Charles Jacob Hiles; her parents; and two sisters.

Memorials may be directed to Floyd Valley Hospital or Hospice of Siouxland.
